The Elena Leona Project
Elena's moody diy ep "18" encompasses the past 18 years of her life. Her collection of original, dark and funky acoustic songs from the first ever written to more recent, combined with her love of beat making creates a whole new sound all on it's own.
"The EP titled "18" is basically about the past eighteen years of the my life, that's legit the whole last half of my life " says Leona. Some of the songs including "Blood" "Criminal" and "Infected" have a bit more depth, emotion and hurt than the first ep "Baby Steps". These songs came about during some monumental turning points in the artists life. Along with "Baby Steps" this ep was also produced, written and performed by Elena Leona and engineered by her partner of the last 12 years. "18" combines the artists first born original acoustic guitar songs and ability to play catchy rhythms over simple, self curated beats. Blending smokey vocals with a hip-hop backdrop and peppered with folky-reggae-rock guitar rhythms, really creates a sound all its own.
“The Elena Leona Project (THE E.L.P) is sizzle, spice and everything nice. Like the lovechild of Lauren Hill and Etta James, this project is funky. THE E.L.P started in Eugene and has been performing at local venues for a few years. The project has undergone several makeovers since the beginning. Contagiously excitable, Leona’s personality shines through in her amazing vocal control. In the length of one song, she’ll go from rap to velvety vocals, to jazz scat and belting out downright incredible notes... “The sound is urban groove,” Leona says, “a sound that is something for everyone.” Kelsey Anne Rankin - UP THE FUNK
" Leona serves as one of Eugene’s only female hip-hop voices " Sophia June - Eugene Weekly
